As part of our plan to improve resident recruitment and retention, we are planning to survey our recent resident recruits about their recruitment experiences. We particularly want to know what attracted them to one of our programs. Does anyone have an interview or survey instrument about resident recruitment?

I don't know whether this is exactly what you're looking for, but it might help. Post-match 2005, Jeff Levine posted a survey on zoomerang.com. I believe he sent then a link via e-mail to all those from whom he was interested in obtaining feedback on their recruitment experience with us. I'd be happy to get you more information if this is an option that appeals to you.

Does anyone require US grads to take and pass USMLE Step 2 prior to start of their residency?

Does anyone have a list of Med Schools that require passing USMLE Step 2 in order to graduate?

We do not require them to take Part 2 UNLESS their school requires passing to graduate. In the back of the Green Book is a listing of those schools.

1) We always do a survey of those of the people we expected to select us and opted to go elsewhere. it's always enlightening. Since we're a mid sized GME program sometimes we even do a phone poll.

2) We don't accept anyone who has not passed step two. We were burned several years back by someone who failed right before July 1. There are so many other well qualified candidates - why risk it?

We do not require passage of USMLE part 2 prior to their residency, but we do require that they pass it before they can be promoted to a PGY 2. We also require that our residents pass USMLE part 3 before they can be promoted to a PGY 3.

Our state medical board requires passing both parts of Step 2 in order for the resident to obtain a training license.
