Milestone PC7 reads as follows: "Procedures: Demonstrates understanding of indications/contraindications and ability to perform common basic procedures."

Level 3, which is what is generally expected at the end of the TY year then reads, "Demonstrates competence in simple suturing, laceration management, venipuncture, IV access, bladder catheter placement, arterial puncture, and nasogastric (NG) tube placement."

Many of our TY residents do not get enough training in these procedures for us to say they are proficient. For instance, they never place a bladder catheter. They may put in a central line but not do a peripheral venipuncture.

Do you have the same issue?
If so, then how are you going to address this milestone?
